For the past 30 + years, my wife Nancy and I have owned and operated Springvale Nurseries, the largest tree nursery in our region.  When I reached 60 years I realized that my hands no longer worked like they used to, I was developing arthritis and also suffering from Carpal tunnel syndrome.  

Bottom line, I could no longer prune trees with conventional name brand tools.  So....we set out to develop our own tools that would allow us to continue the work that we loved and needed to do!  This was the birth of our Gardener’s Friend brand of tools.  Tools that I could use and tools others could also benefit from who share age and mobility related constraints.
